Are your puppies vet checked before they are sold?
Some breeds of dogs, especially those that require their tails or ears to be docked or their dew claws to be removed, are taken to the vets within a few days of their births to have these procedures done. Fortunately, none of these procedures are required for French Bulldogs.
Our pups are all delivered by C-Section and are immediately seen and checked by our vet. We next take our French Bulldog puppies to our vet generally when they are 6 to 8 weeks of age for a thorough health check-up. If any of our puppies are destined to have problems, we almost always know by this time. This allows us to identify puppies which should not be sold and/or for which special arrangements need to be made.
When we place a puppy, we will provide a vet check report which is signed and stamped by our vet. Of course, there are some things which cannot show up on a standard vet examination, but most puppies which have any significant issues will have them discovered during this exam.
Any puppies/dogs we sell will be up to date on all immunizations and preventive treatments for worms, coccidia, and giardia. We give an internasal DAPP & Bordetella at 5 weeks. A DAPP and corona injection is given at 7 weeks, and a second DAPP injection and first Bordetella injection is given at 9 weeks. If a puppy is still in our care at 12 weeks, we will give the 3rd DAPP and 2nd Bordetella injection. Additional DAPP and Bordetella injections are due yearly thereafter. The first rabies shot is normally given at around 16 weeks, and the second is due a year later. Succeeding rabies shots are then due at two- or three-year intervals depending on local requirements.
We give fenbendazole as preventive treatment for worms and giardia at 6 and 8 weeks and preventive treatment for coccidia with Albon starting at 5 weeks and continuing until they leave to go to their forever homes, even if there is no indication of any of these parasites. Puppies should be dewormed every two weeks until they are three months old, then every month until they are 6 months old, and then every three months, unless something indicates that more frequent treatment is needed. Heart-worm prevention medication should be given monthly once your Frenchie puppy is old enough to be outside for exercise breaks during mosquito season (since heartworms are spread through mosquito bites).
The bottom line is that your puppy will come to you vet checked and up to date on all age-appropriate immunization shots and medications. The last thing we would ever want to do is to place a puppy with you, or anyone else, that is not in good health, or which has a congenital problem which could result in severe problems down the road. We will do our very best to ensure that your experience in obtaining your French Bulldog puppy through us is a pleasant and positive one. As mentioned elsewhere, all of our puppies come with a minimum one-year health guarantee against congenital issues (we increase this to two years if NuVet supplements are used), and we will treat you fairly if any health issue does arise.
