Pricing for French Bulldog Puppies in the USA: Things You Should Know

The French Bulldog is one of the most popular and most adored dog breeds in the world. They have a sweet, charming temperament; are small in size; require little maintenance; and have a smart, intelligent, and fun-loving personality. This makes them one of the most sought after breeds in the world. However, there are few things that you need to keep in mind when buying one.

For example, since Frenchies come in a myriad of colors and patterns, what color and/or pattern French Bulldog do you want; do you want a male or a female, or is either fine; how do you find a reputable breeder from whom to buy your Frenchie(s); is it a necessity to physically see your puppy or are pictures and/or videos fine; etc..  All these factors affect French Bulldog puppy prices in the USA.

There are a few things that you need to know, before buying a French Bulldog.

Is the French Bulldog Rare?

French Bulldogs are super popular in the world. Not only do every day people love them, but some top celebrities also have French Bulldogs as their pets. One of the reasons is that they come in so many gorgeous colors and patterns.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) acknowledges nine colors which includes brindle, brindle and white, cream, fawn, fawn and white, fawn brindle, white, fawn brindle and white, white and fawn, and blue. Also AKC acknowledges six markings – black markings, white markings, black masks, brindle markings, piebald, and ticked.

All of these are referred to as standard colors, and Frenchies in any of these colors can be entered into AKC conformation events, where breeding stock is evaluated.  Puppies in these colors are not cheap, for a lot of very valid reasons, that are spoken about in other blogs.  Prices in the $3000 to $4000 range for high-quality Frenchie puppies in these colors are not out of line.

However, there are also more rare Frenchies that are created from recessive genes that are rare but do exist within the Frenchie gene pool.  This includes Frenchies that are blue, chocolate, and lilac, including those with pure coats or tan points.  These can be registered with the AKC, assuming they come from fully registered AKC parents, but as of now, they are not permitted in AKC sanctioned conformation events.

However, because they are rare, and so many people find them captivating, expect to pay more for one of them.  Breeders pay very high prices to obtain these rare genes in their breeding program, and they need to get a return on their investment. Color definitely affects French Bulldog Puppy Prices in the USA.

More About the French Bulldog

The French Bulldog has a squarish head with a flattened muzzle, erect bat ears, a compact and muscular body, and is relatively small in size (greater than 28 pounds is an AKC disqualification). They can be quite energetic, but they also enjoy relaxing.

They typically spend hours beside their owners, to whom they will be devoted.  Assuming they are well-bred and do not have any significant health issues, they live an average of 10 to 12 years.

These little dogs are highly sociable and enjoy playing with kids of all ages, which is one of the reasons why they are so loved. They are generally quiet and reserved, and they do not require much exercise, which makes them ideal for apartment life.

  • Can the French Bulldog be used as a guard dog?

There are certainly a lot of better breeds than the French Bulldog, if you are primarily interested in a guard dog.  However, the French Bulldog can be a fairly effective family guard dog.

Even though they are relatively quiet dogs, they will bark for valid reasons, which can provide some protection against intruders or other risks. This is another reason French Bulldog puppy prices in the USA are higher than most other breeds.

  • The French Bulldog is one of the most playful dogs

Families enjoy the French Bulldog in part because of their passion for play. This dog gets along great with kids and can play for hours with them. The French Bulldog is not frightened of strangers, once they know that they are no threat, and Frenchies get along great with other animals, including dogs and cats.

  • French Bulldogs love companionship

It is a universal truth for many dogs, but the Frenchie is at the top of the list. They can certainly get by on their own for a few hours here and there, but they should not be left alone for extended periods of time.  If they are, they can become anxious and stressed, which can lead to some unpleasant behavior.

his is why many Frenchie owners purchase two Frenchies, unless they have other pets at home that can be companions for their new puppy, when they cannot be there 24/7.  If you do not have any other pets, if you need to leave for an extended period of time, it is best to make arrangements to have a trusted person spend time with them.

  • Is the French Bulldog affectionate?

The French Bulldog is one of the most loving and affectionate canine breeds.  They love their 2-legged family members, and they would rather spend time with them than with any 4-legged family members that may also live in the home.

They love nothing better than to curl up next to their master while they are reading, watching TV, working on the computer, etc.  They love to be petted, but they are not needy, like some breeds tend to be, like the Golden Retriever.  No matter what the French Bulldog puppy prices are in the USA, many people believe they are more than worth it.

  • Is the French Bulldog lazy?

Most dogs are lazy to some degree, like most humans.  The Frenchie may appear a little more so because they are generally so calm and laid-back, and they love to take naps when the opportunities present themselves.  This is especially true if they can nap when curled next to one of their favorite people. While the Frenchie does like to get comfortable, they enjoy playing and taking walks, especially with their favorite humans.

They’re naturally quiet and reserved, which makes them ideal for apartment living, especially since the Frenchie does not need much exercise.  Daily zoomies or a walk around the neighborhood will get the job done.  However, expect your Frenchie to be sleeping, or at least resting, well over half the day.

Why You Should Consider French Bulldogs

French Bulldogs are renowned for their warm and amiable personalities, and sweet and even temperaments, making them great companions for individuals and families.

These dogs enjoy being around people and interacting with the family. Because of their energetic, yet laid-back temperament, French Bulldogs are an excellent choice for both seasoned and novice dog owners.

Since the French Bulldog is now the most popular breed in the USA, and a Frenchie won the Westminster Dog Show in 2022, there are lots of opportunities to show your dog, if that is something that appeals to you.

Of course, your Frenchie is also the most wonderful companion pet you will ever have.  Because of all the qualities that have been mentioned in this blog, along with the very high cost of breeding this wonderful dog, French Bulldog puppy prices in the US tend to be relatively high.

Conclusion

All French Bulldog puppies are unbelievably cute and have all the wonderful qualities you love about this breed, even though each will have his/her own personality, just like humans. Remember that the color of a Frenchie has absolutely no impact on the health, temperament, or any other quality of the breed.  However, the color will generally affect French Bulldog puppy prices in the USA.  The prices for standard color Frenchies of black brindle, fawn, sable, and cream will generally be significantly less than the more rare colors of blue, chocolate, and lilac, including the pure coats and those with tan points.
